Pushing Textiles Forward through technology-
2024
Back in 1965, Dr. James Hunter, Jefferson Medical College class of '53, in partnership with Philadelphia Textile Institute, invented an artificial tendon for the hand. The Hunter Standard Tendon implant is made from a woven polyester cord surrounded by a silicone elastomer infused with barium so that it will be visible on an X-Ray. Philadelphia University (formerly Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science) and Jefferson Medical College merged in 2017 and became Jefferson University, a vocation centered research University.
